Music director Lou Kosma will lead the orchestra in rousing performances of well-known popular favorites, including Over the Rainbow, Colonel Bogey March, Highlights from Jurassic Park, Go the Distance (from Disneys Hercules), Marche Militaire Francaise, Kanon in D, and Stars and Stripes Forever. The Vermont Philharmonic Pops concerts have become audience favorites and a Central Vermont tradition. Dont miss this exciting performance to be held at City Hall Arts Center in Montpelier, Monday December 31, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. Admission is free with a Montpelier 2008 First Night Button. If you love to sing and can make a commitment to the following rehearsal schedule, then you can be part of the Vermont Philharmonic's 49th season by joining the Messiah chorus. Brian Webb will be guest conductor for the orchestra and chorus for the Vermont Philharmonic's annual Messiah concert on Friday, November 30th, 7:30 pm at St. Augustine's Church, Montpelier, and Sunday, December 2nd, 3:30 pm at the Barre Opera House. Rehearsal dates are: Sundays (1:30 -3:00 pm) November 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th at Christ (Episcopal) Church, Montpelier. Tuesday, November 27th, 7:00 pm at the Barre Opera House, and Thursday, November 29th, 7:00 pm at St. Augustine's Church in Montpelier. Interested? The VPO under the direction of music director Lou Kosma, was joined by Bel Canto Institute singers Caroline McKenzie, Soprano, Christel Smith, Soprano, and Jonathan Winell, Tenor. Over 400 attendees were treated to nearly two hours of Italian operatic favorites which were enthusiastically received at the Barre Opera House and the Hardwick Town House Theater. The Hardwick performance was the VPO's first in that venue, and the first time a full orchestra has played that venue in anyone's memory according to the Hardwick Gazette (10/10/07). delivers excitement, Times Argus review by Jim Lowe, October 16, 2007 Times Argus Preview article "Vermont Philharmonic partners with Italy's Bel Canto Institute" October 12, 2007 10/10/07 Bel Canto Institute to be featured on the Mark Johnson show The Bel Canto Institute director Jane Klaviter was the featured guest on the Mark Johnson Show on WDEV AM and FM on Friday, October 12, 2007 at 9:00 a.m. Ms. Klaviter discussed the institute's role in preserving the art of Italian Opera, and the Bel Canto soloists Caroline McKenzie, Soprano, Christel Smith, Soprano, and Jonathan Winell, Tenor, performed on the air! WDEV can be heard at AM 550 and at FM 96.1 in the Central Vermont area. 10/10/07 VPO Announces 2007-2008 Ticketing Policy The VPO Directors are pleased to announce a new ticket policy for the 2007-2008 season. Any ticket purchased for a VPO concert will be honored for subsequent performances of that concert, subject to seating availability. Fans who wish to see a repeat performance of a VPO concert can now do so without having to pay a second or third time. It's the VPO's way of saying thank you to all of its loyal fans. 9/30/07 VPO announces brochure availability The Vermont Philharmonic has published its 2007-2008 season in a brochure format! The brochure will be available at all VPO events and at select local outlets. Look for it! |
